SMI Manufacturing History

Developed By RV'rs.

SMI Manufacturing, Inc was formed by John and Peter Schuck in 1996 to introduce a safe, reliable, cost effective vacuum-assisted towed vehicle brake. The SMI Vacuum-Assisted Braking System was born out of frustration with the various systems available on the market. Of the systems that used vacuum ... the installation ranged from complex to factory only. All of the air pressure, electric motors, or surge systems rely on brute force to operate the "dead" brake pedal. Many of these systems must place as much as 120 pounds on the pedal to operate the brakes. This is simply not an acceptable solution to towed vehicle braking.

It was for these reasons that the SMI Vacuum-Assisted System was designed. Since its introduction in the Fall of 1996 the system has received overwhelming reviews by industry professionals and end users alike. We now offer two models to choose from.
